It’s lobster season! That means lots of early morning snorkeling looking for the little bugs. I’m not a fan of eating a meal before we go out but I do like a nice little pick-me-up before we head out and, quite frankly, we enjoy these any time of the day when we’re searching for a sweet treat that we can feel good about!
Ingredients (makes about 12 balls)
1 cup peanut butter (we prefer crunchy)
1/2 cup banana flour (any flour will do, I choose to use banana flour because of its health benefits. It has lots of potassium for energy and is a resistant starch which is great for your gut flora)
1/2 cup quick oats plus 1/4 cup for coating (use what you have or what you like)
2 tbsp hemp hearts (great source of heart healthy omega fatty acids, anti-inflammatory and good fiber source)
2 tbsp flax seeds (soluble and insoluble fiber source, omega fatty acids and a good portion source)
1/3 cup chocolate morsels (good for the soul…as if we needed an excuse to add these in)
2 tbsp agave or sweetener of your choice (blended dates, honey, stevia)
How to

This one’s easy. Start with your wet ingredients in a bowl (agave, peanut butter) and add your hemp hearts, flax and banana flour. This will insure you get all the good stuff in!
Slowly add the oats to thicken the mixture into that of a cookie dough. Once you've achieved a good consistency (this may require more or less oats then recommended) fold in the chocolate morsels.
Roll your heart out! You choose what size you want ‘em (no judgment) and roll into balls, then coat in quick oats. I often make balls about the diameter of a quarter which we will eat when we’re going out diving, and then some smaller balls for the times I just need a little sweet treat
Stick them in the freezer and snack as you please!
